Current and Timely Workshop SERIES

Prince Edward VCE popular “Lunch & Learn” series of programs takes place on the first Thursday of each month at 12 noon to 1 p.m. Join us at the Prince Edward County Extension building (across from Lowe’s). It’s FREE.
Buckingham VCE also has excellent monthly workshops, “Tips & Topics”,  on Saturdays, starting at 10:00. Join them at their extension office in Buckingham, VA. It’s FREE.

  • October 15th. Fuqua School, Farmville, in the Gee Prince Center, 7:00-8:30. Join us for an evening of soulful, artful and joyful gardening stories told by plantsman and author Augustus Jenkins Farmer.  Book signing and refreshments start at 6:00 PM. Check poster for more information.
  • October 12th. HOVMGA Buckingham VCE “Tips and Topics” series. 10:00-11:00 AM. Free: “Power Google Search your Garden Questions”. Most gardeners have used Google to search for information about pruning, bugs, fertilizer, and more, but do you know the tricks to getting the best results at the top of your hit list? Join us as Jill Baedke, Google Certified Trainer and Master Gardener intern, gently takes us through the fun of mastering how to do a power Google search using the VCE and research web sites. Bring your cell phone, device, or laptop to join us!  FREE: Saturday, October 12th, 10:00 am at the Buckingham VCE Office, 54 Administration Lane, Buckingham, VA 23921.

  • September 14. HOVMGA Buckingham VCE “Tips and Topics” series. 10:00-11:00 AM. Free: “Light Up Your Spring with Fall-Planted Bulbs.”  Master gardeners Jackie Fairbarns and Kelly Love-Schwartz will be discussing the big three bulbs —crocus, daffodil, and tulip — but also exploring some of the lesser known bulbs and how to choose, plant, and manage them to extend the flowering season. They will also discuss designing a bulb planting area for your specific space and aesthetic style. What can you do with saved collectibles like old windows, bits and pieces of lumber, small branches, vines, and other items? Why not build a greenhouse! Join us to hear how Cynthia Wood uses her found items to ReNew, ReUse, ReCycle and build cold frames, wicket fences, and even a greenhouse! Join us to explore methods of helping your garden survive the hottest days of summer….and to help the gardener to thrive as well! Jackie Fairbarns and Kelly Love-Schwarz will discuss how to deal with weeds overtaking everything, bugs proliferating, the ground baking, and the gardener melting! Get a head start on Fall planting with good advice from these two Master Gardeners in Buckingham.
